New type work

I've been working on some typefaces to go alongside some articles I'm writing. The first example is a blueprint style version of Gliese to go alongside an article on failed inventions. The second font was a bit of fun that came about from the desire to create a modern gothic style font. It's a bit too 'boxy' at the moment, I might try adding to it/tearing it apart and starting again. I quite like the three dimensional effect going on. Meh.

Napoleon Dynamite illustrations

Over the last few days I've been working on some illustrations for a review I'm writing on Napoleon Dynamite, for the Sauce mag. They are also available to buy on society6. I haven't done much drawing type stuff, feel like I want to do more of it. I might also illustrate a few more characters from the film fairly soon...

Whimsical Pipe Photography

While me and Kat were having a photographic jaunt on the beach I discovered the perfect piece of driftwood for some off the cuff pipe photography. I put the pipe down mid smoke so it is a bit ashy but its nothing that a nice shallow depth of field can't rectify.

Society 6

I have put my first piece of work up on Society 6. I'm hoping to build a half decent portfolio on there in the coming months. I'll keep posting about it no doubt. You can find it here.

1953 BC - naked eye planets

In 1953BC the naked eye planets were in the close alignment - within around 4 degrees. I think the next closest alignment will be in 2044 odd, and that'll be around 11 degrees off. Enough boring facts, here are a few images I'm working on for this event. Thinking of bastardising some type for it too. We shall see.

2000 BC - stonehenge

I am planning a project looking at the main events from the past 4000 years - key points in history and generally interesting things. Ideally I am looking to produce an illustration for every single year, although this would be a monumental undertaking! As well as that it's actually quite hard finding solid dates and events for each year (a lot of stuff I have found has been quite boring - kings dying or taking the throne and wars pretty much). If anyone knows of any interesting events in mind from 2000 - 1000 BC let me know about it! This is my first attempt at an illo for 2000BC which is the date when Stonehenge was completed (allegedly). It feels a little rough around the edges and not quite on the money, so I may come back to it and develop it a bit more after I tackle a few more events.

Skull Drawings....again.

I Can't get enough of anatomical drawing, or skulls. So here are some more sketches I did recently. I know it's all a bit lame - drawing skulls and that - but I can't help myself! I did one sketch and then messed around with it in various ways.

I had a go at drawing the muscle structure over the skull - I definitely want to do more muscle drawings...

How about overlaying them all? Weird.

Some screen shots of a piece I'm working on. Typeface is egypt 22, which I think is beautiful. Everyone should (and probably will be now) using it!

Gliese Typeface

I'm working on a new typeface - inspired by the planet Gliese 581 c
This is a quick comp just to give an idea of where I am at the moment - I want to improve my Photoshop planet creation skills. Obviously that is an important skill to have.
